Horace Donaldson Stephens
FALMOUTH - Horace Donaldson Stephens died peacefully at his
home Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005.
He was born April 3, 1934 in
Pittsfield, Mass, a son of Rev. John Underwood and Louise
Koons Stephens. Horace was graduated from The Lawrenceville
School, Princeton University, and from Johns Hopkins with a
M.A.T.
He was a math and computer teacher
for many years at Tabor Academy, Shadyside Academy, and
Waynflete School. One of his proudest accomplishments was
introducing computer classes for students in each of these
schools in the 1960s and 70s.
He also was a software designer in
the field of directional drilling of oil. He later formed
Houston Directional Software in Houston Texas, and ran the
company until his retirement.
He is predeceased by parents of
Ogunquit; brother Wade of Lawrenceville, N.J.; and an
infant son James Lund Stephens.
Horace is survived by his
cherished wife of 48 years, Susan Lund Stephens of
Falmouth, five children, eight grandchildren, and extended
family.
Horace took great joy and delight
in all of his grandchildren. He accepted his illness with
grace and good humor and never complained. While we are
deeply saddened that he is gone from us, we are relieved
that his struggle with lung disease is over.
His children are Carolyn Stephens
of Portland with husband James Flanagan and daughter Anna
Flanagan; Robert Stephens of Blue Hill with wife Tina and
children Lorna, Matthew, and Kathleen; John Stephens with
wife Magda and son Adam Horace; Jennifer Stephens of
Missoula, Montana, with husband James Driver and children
Sydney, James, and Nathan Driver; and daughter Emily
Stephens of Portland.
A memorial service will be held on
Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 1 p.m., at Church of St. Mary the
Virgin, Route 88, Falmouth.
The family would like to offer a
special thank you to Dr. Rebecca Hemphill and to VNA Home
Health Care for such personal and compassionate care.
If friends wish, in lieu of
